[9:50] If (In) (Hasanatun) touches you (s) (Tusiib'ka), it distresses them (Tasu'hum'); but (Wa) if (In) a
misfortune (✳️57:22) (Musiibatun) afflicts you (s) (Tusib'ka), they say (Yaquulu'), "We already (Qad') had
(Akhaz'naa) our concern (matter)(Am'ra-naa) before (Min Qab'lu)," and (Wa) they turn away (Yatawallaw')
while (Wa) they (Hum') are rejoicing (Farihuun).

[9:51] Say (Qul): "Never (Lan) will we be afflicted (Yusiiba-naa) except (illa) what (Maa) GOD (Ellahu) has
decreed (Kataba) for us (Lanaa); HE (Huwa) is our guardian (master) (Maw'laa-naa). And (Wa) so let (Fal') the
believers (El'Mu'minuun) rely (Yatawakkali) on GOD (Ã
laallahi)."

God's ordinance means God's laws: the outcome is the result of our choices. Fatalism is against
the principles of free will. God knows all the probabilities and this does not negate our freedom to make choices. See verses 6:59; 57:22; 97:1.

[9:52] Say (Qul'): "Do (Hal') you only (illa) await for us (Tarabbasuuna Binaa) one (Ih'daa) of the two best
things (El'Hus'nayai'ni), while (Wa) we (Nah'nu) await for you (Natarabbasu Bikum') that (An) GOD (Ellahu)
should afflict you (Yusiiba-kumu) with (Bi) a punishment (Ã
zaabin) from HIM (Min' Endihi) or (Aw') by (Bi)
our hands (Ai'diinaa)? So (Fa) keep waiting (Tarabbasuu'), indeed we (Innaa) are with you (MaÃĨkum)
waiting (Mutarabbisuun)."

(9:52) Say to them: You are simply waiting to see which of the two events befalls us - defeat or
success. We welcome both. (In the case of defeat if we are slain, eternal blissful life will be our
reward. If we are victorious it will help us continue our struggle for the establishment of Divine
Order). On our part, we will wait to see Allah chastising you by external means or through us (*9/14). So you wait and surely we shall also wait with you.pz.

be accepted (Yutaqabbala) from you (Minkum'). Indeed, (Innakum') you are (Kuntum') an immoral
(Faasiqiin) people (Qaw'man)."

9:53 Say: "You may spend [anything], willingly-or unwillingly, [pretending that you do it for the sake of God:] it shall never be accepted from you* -for, verily, you are people bent on iniquity!"

-"it shall never be acceptable to God": an allusion to the readiness on the part of many hypocrites to contribute financially to "good causes", ostensibly for the sake of moral considerations but, in reality, "only to be seen and praised by men"

[9:54] And (Wa) what (Maa) prevented theirs (ManaÃĨ-hum') from (An) being accepted (Tuq'bala) from
them (Min'hum') is only (illaa) because they (Annahum') have disbelieved (Kafaru') in GOD (Billahi) and in
(Bi) HIS messenger (Rasuuli-hi), and they do not (Laa) come to (Ya'tuuna) the Prayer (Es'Solaata) except (illa)
while (Wa) they (Hum') are lazy (Kusaalaa), nor (Walaa) do they disburse (Yunfiquuna) except (illa) while
(Wa) they (Hum') are unwilling (Kaarihuun).

(9:54) Tell them that the reason why their contribution cannot be accepted is that they are opposed to
the Divine Order set up by the Rasool, and only join the assembly of Salat languidly, and do not
make their contribution except reluctantly (4/142, 107/5)pz.

9:54 What prevented the acceptance of their spending was that they rejected God and His messenger, and they do not attend to the contact prayer except lazily, and they do not spend except unwillingly.

Note-2
This verse is another piece of evidence that sala prayers were known since Abraham and were practiced by Meccan polytheists (8:35; 21:73). This is another answer for those who reject Quran's assertion that it is complete, perfect, and sufficiently detailed, and then ask, "Where can we find the details of sala prayers in the Quran?" (6:19, 38,114). One can find the details of sala prayer for themselves by just studying the sixty plus verses that mention sala prayer.(edip).

This is another proof that the Contact Prayers (Salat) existed before the Quran, and were handed down from Abraham (see 21:73). [9:55] So (Fa) let not (Laa) their wealth (Am'waalu-hum') nor (Walaa) their children (Aw'laadu-hum') amaze
you (s) (Tu'jib'ka). GOD (Ellahu) only (Innamaa) intends (Yuriidu) to (Li) punish them (YuÃĨzziba-hum)
thereby (Bihaa) in (Fii) the worldly (Ed'Dun'yaa) life (El'Hayaati), and (Wa) their souls (Anfusu-hum') will
vanish (Taz'haqa) while (Wa) they (Hum') are disbelievers (Kaafiruun).

9:55 Let not their riches or their children and party astonish you (O Prophet). God causes them to suffer retribution through these in the life of this world and they depart in sorrow while they are in denial (*9:85).

The ‘dazzle’ of the world holds them back from striving. But people must strive and build Paradise with their own hands. **3:135, 16:32, 46:14(sa).

are a divisive (Yaf'raquun) people (Qaw'mun).

(Yal'mizu-ka) concerning
(Fii) charities (*9:60) (Es'Sodaqaati); and (Fa) if (In') they are given (U'tu') therefrom (Min'haa), they are pleased
(Radu'), but (Wa) if (In) they are not (Lam') given (Yu'taw') therefrom (Min'haa), then (Izaa) they (Hum') are
displeased (Yas'khatuun).

9:58 And among them are such as find fault with thee [O Prophet] concerning [the distribution of] the offerings given for the sake of God:* if they are given something thereof, they are well-pleased; but if they are not given anything thereof, lo! they are consumed with anger.
Note*
Since there is no English equivalent for the term sadaqat (sing. sadagah), here as "offerings given for the sake of God". This comprises everything that a believer freely gives to another person, out of love or compassion, as well as what he is morally or legally obliged to give, without expecting any worldly return: that is, charitable gifts and deeds of every description (which is the primary meaning of sadaqat -e.g., in 2:263 and 264), as well as the obligatory called zakah ("the purifying dues", because its payment purifies, as it were, a person's property from the taint of selfishness). In the context of the above verse, this term refers to the funds thus collected and administered by the Muslim community or state. When these funds are disbursed for the purposes stipulated in verse 60, they assume once more - this time in relation to the recipients-the aspect of "charitable gifts"(as).

[9:59] And (Wa) if only they (Law' Anna-hum') had been pleased (Radu') with what (Maa) GOD (Ellahu)
and HIS messenger (Rasuulu-hu) gave them (Aataa-humu) and said (Qaalu'), "GOD is sufficient for us
(Has'bunaa-llahu); GOD (Ellahu) will give us (Sa Yu'tiinaa) from (Min) HIS favour (Fad'li-hi) and so (Wa)

(9:59) How good it would have been for them if they had felt satisfied with their due share given to
them by the Divine Order and said that their association with this Order was enough for them, that
in the future also they would continue to get their share and would refer their needs to the Divine Order (59/6).pz.
