.
[3:53] "Our LORD (Rabba-naa), we have believed (Aamannaa) in what (Bimaa) YOU have revealed
(Anzal'ta) and (Wa) have followed (Ettaba'naa) the Messenger (Jesus) (Er'Rasuula), so (Fa) register us
(Ek'tub'naa) with (Maå) the witnesses (Es'Shaahidiin)."
.
📍Verse/Note:
3:53- This they said to Jesus. Thereafter they addressed Allah saying, O our Sustainer! We believe in what you have revealed and would follow Your Rasool. Count us amongst those whose lives are a living proof of the truthfulness of the Divine Order(pz).
.
(The Death of Jesus).
.
[3:54] And (Wa) they schemed (Makaru'), and (Wa) GOD schemed (Makara-llahu), and (Wa) GOD (Ellahu)
is the best (Khai'ru) of schemers (El'Maakiriin).
.
📍Verse/Note:
3:54 And the unbelievers schemed [against Jesus];44 but God brought their scheming to nought: for God is above all schemers.
.
Lit., "they schemed" - here referring to those among the Jews who refused to acknowledge Jesus as a prophet and tried to destroy him(as).
.
.
[3:55] Then (Iz') GOD (Ellahu) said (Qaala), "O (Yaa) Jesus (Eesaa), indeed I (Innii) will cause you to die
(Mutawaffii-ka) and (Wa) raise you (Raafiu'ka) to ME (ilayya) and purify you (Mutohhiru-ka) from (Mina)
those who (Ellaziina) disbelieve (Kafaru') and will place (Jaa'elu) those who (Ellaziina) followed you
(Ettabauu-ka) above (Faw'qa) those who (Ellaziina) disbelieved (Kafaruu') till (ilaa) the Day of Resurrection
(Yaw'mil' Qiyaamati). Then (Thumma) to me (ilayya) is your return (Mar'jiu-kum'), and (Fa) I will judge
(Eh'kumu) between you (Bai'nakum') concerning what (Fiimaa) you have (Kuntum') differed in
(Takh'talifuun Fiihi).
.
📍Verse/Note-1
3:55 God said, “O Jesus! I will cause you to die of natural causes, will exalt you in My Sight and will clear you of the slander of the disbelievers. And I will cause those who truly follow you to dominate those who are rejecting you, until the Day of Resurrection. Eventually, all of you will return to Me. Then I will judge among you about that wherein you used to differ.”
.
Wafaat = Dying of natural causes. Rafa’ = Exalt = Raising in honor. Ilayya = To Me = Allegorically, God being Omnipresent is not confined to the heavens(sa).
.
📍Verse/Note-2
This refers to all who revere Jesus (i.e., the Christians, who believe him to be "the son of God", and the Muslims, who regard him as a prophet) as well as to those who deny him altogether. Regarding God's promise to Jesus, "I shall exalt thee unto Me", see surah 4:158.
.
4:158 nay, God exalted him unto Himself* - and God is indeed almighty, wise.
.
Cf. *3:55, where God says to Jesus, "Verily, I shall cause thee to die, and shall exalt thee unto Me." The verb rafa ahu (lit., "he raised him" or "elevated him") has always, whenever the act of raf' ("elevating") of a human being is attributed to God, the meaning of "honouring" or "exalting". Nowhere in the Qur'an is there any warrant for the popular belief that God has "taken up" Jesus bodily, in his lifetime, into heaven. The expression "God exalted him unto Himself" in the above verse denotes the elevation of Jesus to the realm of God's special grace - a blessing in which all prophets partake, as is evident from 19:57, where the verb rafa nahu ("We exalted him") is used with regard to the Prophet Idris. The "nay" (bal) at the beginning of the sentence is meant to stress the contrast between the belief of the Jews that they had put Jesus to a shameful death on the cross and the fact of God's having "exalted him unto Himself"(as).
.
📍Verse/Note-3
3:55-Jesus enemies conspired to crucify him but Allah said to him. Be assured! their conspiracy will not succeed. You will fulfil your mission and die a natural death (5/17). You will be exalted. I will absolve you to the allegations levelled against you and take you far away from the grip of these conspirators. At present your followers appear to be weak, but eventually they will overcome their enemies and remain victorious for a long time(pz).
.

.
.
[3:56] "But (Fa) as for (Ammaa) those who (Ellaziina) disbelieved (Kafaru'), thus (Fa) I will punish them
(Uåzzibu-hum')
with a severe (Shadiidan) punishment (Åzaaban) in (Fii) the world (Ed'Dun'ya) and the
hereafter (Wal' Aakhirati), and (Wa) they will have (Lahum) no (Maa Min) helpers (Naasiriin)."
.
📍Verse/Note:
56-57 According to that Law those who reject the truth face torment in this world and the Hereafter and none can rescue them from it. On the other hand, those who accept the truth and work for its establishment are fully rewarded. And Allah does not like z alimeen(pz).
.
.
[3:57] And (Wa) as for (Ammaa) those who (Ellaziina) believed (Aamanu') and (Wa) did (Åmilu') good deeds (Es'Soalihaati), thus (Fa) HE will pay them (Yuwaffii-him') their rewards (Ujuura-hum'), for (Wa) GOD (Ellahu) does not (Laa) like (Yuhibbu) the transgressors (Ez'Zoalimiin).
.
.
[3:58] That (Zaalika) is what We recite (Nat'luu-hu) to you (s) (Ålai'ka) of (Mina) the verses (El'Aayaati) and (Wa) the Wise (El'Hakiim) Remembrance (Ez'Zik'ri).
.
📍Verse/Note:
3:58 This We recite to you is from the revelation and the wise reminder(edip).
.
"This We convey unto thee of the messages and of the wise tiding." The expression "this of the messages" bears, to my mind, the connotation of one particular message - namely, the one which follows immediately after this sentence(as).
.
Az-Zikr = The Reminder = The Book that can give you eminence = The Message worth taking to hearts(sa).
.
.
[3:59] Indeed (Inna), the example (Mathala) of Jesus (Eesaa) with GOD (Endallahi) is like (Ka) the example (Mathali) of Adam (Aadama); HE created him (Adam) (Khalaqa-hu) from (Min) dust (Turaabin) and then (Thumma) said (Qaala) to him (Lahu), "Be (Kun)," and (Fa) he became (Yakuun).
.
📍Verse/Note-1
3:59 With God, the example of Jesus is that of Adam (other humans) who were initially created from dust and then evolved through different stages of life (22:5, 30:20). He created him (the human) beginning from inorganic matter, then He said to him, “Be! And he is.”
.
The process of procreation goes on - “IS”. Kun fayakoon = The moment God decrees a thing, it starts happening(sa).
.
📍Verse/Note-2
3:59 Verily, in the sight of God, the nature of Jesus is as the nature of Adam, whom He created out of dust and then said unto him, "Be" - and he is(as).

.
[3:60] The truth (El'Haqqu) is from (Min) your LORD (Rabbi-ka), so (Fa) do not (Laa) be (Takun) among (Mina) the doubters (El'Mum'tariin)(📍2:147).
.
.
[3:61] Therefore (Fa) whoever (Man') argues with you (s) (Haajja-ka) concerning it (Fiihi) after (Min Ba'di)what (Maa) has come to you (Jaa'a-ka) of (Mina) the knowledge (El' il'mi), then (Fa) say (Qul'): "Come (Ta'åålaw'), let us call (Nad'u) our children (Ab'naa'a-naa) and (Wa) your children (Ab'naa'a-kum'), our
women (Nisaa'a-naa) and (Wa) your women (Nisaa'a-kum'), ourselves (Anfusa-naa) and (Wa) yourselves (Anfusa-kum'), and (Thumma) let us supplicate (Nab'tahil') and (Fa) place (Naj'ål) the curse of GOD (La'nata-llahi) upon (Ålaa) the liars (El'Kaazibiin)."
.
📍Verse/Note:
3:61 If anyone argues with you concerning him, after the knowledge has come to you, then say, “Come! Let us call upon our children, and your children, and our women and your women, and our people and your people to leave one another alone, knowing that God's condemnation is upon the liars.”(sa).
.
Historical events:
Regarding the true nature of Jesus. According to all the reliable authorities, verses 59-63 of this surah were revealed in the year 10 H., on the occasion of a dispute between the Prophet and a deputation of the Christians of Najran who, like all other Christians, maintained that Jesus was "the son of God" and, therefore, God incarnate. Although they refused the "trial through prayer" (mubahalah) proposed to them by the Prophet, the latter accorded to them a treaty guaranteeing all their civic rights and the free exercise of their religion(asd).
.
.
[3:62] Indeed (Inna), this (Haaza) is (Lahuwa) the narration (El'Qasosu) of truth (El'Haqqu). And (Wa) there is no (Maa Min') god (ilaahin) except (illa) the GOD (Ellahu). For (Wa) indeed, GOD (Innallaha) is (Lahuwa)the ALMIGHTY (El' Åziizu), the WISE (El' Hakiim).
.
.
[3:63] And (Fa) if (In) they turn away (Tawallaw'), then (Fa) indeed, GOD (Innallaha) is aware of (Åliimu Bi)
the corrupters (El'Muf'sidiin).
